ABS's corporate office and manufacturing facility is located in Wallace, MI and it has state of the art fabrication, machining, and panel building facilities. We are looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced programmer who is passionate about innovation, working as part of a team, and seeing the progression from concept to final product.

Position Overview:  The Controls Engineer provides control system hardware and software design and expertise for ABS built equipment on both Rockwell and Beckhoff Automation based platforms.  This individual works with both internal and external customers to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.

Travel required (estimated): 30%


  • Provide hardware/software design for new and existing product lines
  • Provide onsite testing, commissioning, startup of equipment at customer locations
  • Provide technical support and training to customers
  • Provide technical support and training to internal ABS field service personnel
  • Provide technical support to ABS panel shop to ensure quality panel construction and proper electrical code interpretation
  • Provide technical support to testing group to ensure ABS equipment is thoroughly tested/debugged prior to shipment
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining current on codes and requirements; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
  • Responsible for supporting the company's quality policy through compliance with the requirements of the quality management system

 Skills & Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of industrial controls, communications and wiring
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Excellent written, verbal, negotiation, and networking skills
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Organized, accurate, and detail oriented
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems by applying logic, reasoning, and independent judgment
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 3 years of experience in Industrial Automation required
  • Rockwell and/or Beckhoff Automation experience required
  • PLC and HMI software design experience required
  • RSLogix500, Factory Talk View Studio, Twincat, and Indusoft experience preferred
